چکیده

Xhe distribution of the arthropod-borne encephalitis viruses is presented, and their ecology in. relation to water resource developments is discussed. Specific examples are given of the relationships between water resource developments and western equine encephalitis (WEE), St. Louis encephalitis (SLE), West Nile (WN), Murray Valley encephalitis (MVE), and Japanese encephalitis (JE) viruses. The zoonotic character of the virus cycles is stressed, and the activities and cultural habits of man which favor propagation of the viruses is discussed.

Perspectives for the treatment of infections with Flaviviridae.

The family Flaviviridae contains three genera: Hepacivirus, Flavivirus, and Pestivirus. Worldwide, more than 170 million people are chronically infected with Hepatitis C virus and are at risk of developing cirrhosis and/or liver cancer. In addition, infections with arthropod-borne flaviviruses (such as dengue fever, Japanese encephalitis, tick-borne encephalitis, St. Louis encephalitis, Murray ...

Symposium on world medicine. Arthropodborne viral encephalitis.

ease syndromes form a group that might be considered the epidemiologist's dream. Epi¬ demiologic studies of this group require the teamwork and knowledge of the epidemiologist, agriculturalist, sanitary engineer, ornithologist, mammologist, veterinarian, virologist, immunologist, and clinician. In keeping with the theme of this symposium I will emphasize the worldwide aspects of the encephaiiti...

Louping ill virus: an endemic tick-borne disease of Great Britain.

In Europe and Asia, Ixodid ticks transmit tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV), a flavivirus that causes severe encephalitis in humans but appears to show no virulence for livestock and wildlife. In the British Isles, where TBEV is absent, a closely related tick-borne flavivirus, named louping ill virus (LIV), is present. However, unlike TBEV, LIV causes a febrile illness in sheep, cattle, grou...

Exosomes serve as novel modes of tick-borne flavivirus transmission from arthropod to human cells and facilitates dissemination of viral RNA and proteins to the vertebrate neuronal cells

Molecular determinants and mechanisms of arthropod-borne flavivirus transmission to the vertebrate host are poorly understood. In this study, we show for the first time that a cell line from medically important arthropods, such as ticks, secretes extracellular vesicles (EVs) including exosomes that mediate transmission of flavivirus RNA and proteins to the human cells. Our study shows that tick...

Global Importance of the Arthropod-Borne Viruses Affecting Man

It has been pointed out previously' that the arthropod-borne (arbo) viruses affecting man are principally, and possibly all, classifiable as zoonoses and that man is an accidental and frequently a terminal host in the normal biological cycle of the agent. This concept, although important from the standpoint of epidemiology and control, tends to be misleading in respect to the importance of the ...
